چکیده

Malatreat is marketed by Paxherbals as a multi-component antimalarial preparation made from Alstonia boonei, Sida acuta and Tridax procumbens. Phytochemical screening of hexane and ethanol extracts obtained by infusion revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, tannins, anthraquinones, steroids, flavonoids, phlobatannins, glycosides and cardiac glycosides. These secondary metabolites are also known to be present in the constituent plants which are variously used in ethnomedicine for the treatment of malaria fever. This study reveals that qualitatively the formulation maintains the active metabolites present in the constituent plants. © 2011 IGJPS. All rights reserved.

Median lethal dose, antimalarial activity, phytochemical screening and radical scavenging of methanolic Languas galanga rhizome extract.

The methanolic extract of Languas galanga rhizomes was investigated for antimalarial activity against Plasmodium berghei (NK65) infections in mice. The median lethal dose was determined to ascertain the safety of the extract in ICR mice of both sexes. The antimalarial activities during early and established infections, as well as the prophylactic activity were evaluated. Phytochemical screening...

In vivo antimalarial activity, toxicity and phytochemical screening of selected antimalarial plants.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Malaria continues to kill over a million people each year and in many populations affected by malaria, conventional drugs are often unaffordable or inaccessible. Historically, plants have been a prominent source of antimalarial drugs. Those plants currently used by indigenous people to treat malaria should be documented and investigated as potential sources of new...
